Hot chocolate on a stick

hot-choc-stick-love-cooking-2As winter arrived this weekend on the smallholding I went and look for the Hot-Chocolate-on-a-stick recipe.  I’m definitely more of a summer person and a cup of hot chocolate accompanied me as I said goodbye to summer for the next four months.

I found this recipe last winter via Pinterest on the web.  I used mini muffin cases to set the hot chocolate into, I won’t do that again as we had a piece of paper, here and there in the hot chocolate.  Ice cube trays or chocolate moulds are much more effective.  And don’t forget to play around with different flavourings, I love adding a bit of Stroh Rum and then a little bit more for that extra warmth.

Ingredients:

125 ml (½ c) Heavy Cream
1 can Condensed Milk
3 cups 60% Cocoa Chocolate, chopped or in chips
1 cup Unsweetened Chocolate
  Marshmallows
To taste Flavouring like liquor, vanilla, hazelnut essence etc.
  Wooden or Lollipop sticks

Instructions:

  1. Heat the cream and sweetened condensed milk over medium-low heat until it starts steaming, stirring periodically.
  2. Remove from heat and add chocolate. Stir and let sit for 10 minutes, then put back on medium-low heat and stir with a whisk until chocolate is completely melted and shiny. (At this point you could add some flavouring…vanilla, hazelnut, peppermint)
  3. Pour chocolate into prepared ice cube trays or chocolate moulds. Working one cube at a time, insert a stick and place a marshmallow onto the top of the cube. Set aside until moulds are completely dry.
  4. Once all cubes are dry, remove carefully from the moulds. Wrap pretty and store in an airtight container.
